Every opening chills and unsettles

A mating nuc is stocked with very few bees, and that population holds its heat only just. Topping up the feed from above lets you refill without uncovering the nest or exposing the queen in the very days she is flying to mate.

02 · THE CAPACITY

A kilo and a bit is the ceiling, not the ration

The 1.2 kg is maximum capacity, and in a mating nuc that lasts a long time. It pays to load little and often rather than fill it: feed left for weeks ferments, and sour syrup in so small a volume shows at once. Give it what it will use before your next visit.

03 · THE MATERIAL

Two centimetres of polystyrene, like the rest of the system

It shares material and thickness with the APIDEA nuc itself, so the assembly keeps one continuous insulating shell: you are not putting a cold roof on a well-insulated box. In summer it works the same way, because what you avoid is the heat spike of the middle of the day.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Avoid spills when refilling: syrup that lands outside invites robbing, and a mating nuc has no bees to defend itself.
