Wooden pollen trap with folding grid. Contains a wooden pollen tray and perforated galvanized steel plate. It also comes prepared with a slot to put into the beehive. Includes escape for drones. This trap consists of a 4.5 mm mesh grid, that is, wide enough for a worker to pass through and narrow enough to release the pollen balls stuck to the outer face of the hind legs. Under the vertical grid, a horizontal sieve with 3 mm mesh allows the pollen to pass into a box that collects it.

Detalles de Wooden Pollen Trap

When spring really kicks in and you see workers coming back with their pollen baskets packed (wild scrub, thistles, clover, olive…), you know there is value on the table. This front wooden pollen trap is the classic producer-style design used in Spain: straightforward, tough, and built to help you collect clean pollen right at the hive.

It works in two steps. First, the 4.5 mm grid lets workers through but strips the pollen loads from their hind legs. Then the horizontal sieve (3 mm mesh) does the second filtering: pollen drops into the collector drawer, while larger debris stays above. That double screening is what helps you avoid damp, dirty pollen that spoils fast.

In real use, you will appreciate the ventilated drawer with perforated galvanized steel sheet, plus the sloped roof that keeps dew and rain off the pollen. It also includes a drone escape to prevent jams inside, a small detail that saves headaches when colonies are strong.

For best quality: let the bees get used to it for 1–2 days (grid half-open or not fully engaged), then run it in periods. Most important, collect pollen daily (in very dry conditions, sometimes every 2 days in shade). Fresh pollen degrades quickly with heat and moisture, so either freeze it fast or dry it in thin layers.

Compatibility: fits Layens and also works with Langstroth and Dadant. Prepared with a slot for mounting using hooks/screws.

Dimensions: 41 cm (length) x 20 cm (width) x 24 cm (height). Includes 4.5 mm hinged grid, 3 mm sieve, wooden collector drawer with perforated galvanized steel sheet, and drone escape.
