Rotating disc that screws to the front of the hive and leaves the colony's status on show, exactly as you left it at the last inspection.

You work through forty hives in an afternoon, decide three of them need something, and a week later you are standing in front of them with no idea which. This disc keeps the note on the hive itself — no opening up, no notebook.

01 · IN USE

Turns with your gloves on

Two discs on a single pivot: the colour wheel with the six statuses underneath, and a cover with a cut-out window on top. Once the inspection is done you turn the cover until the window shows the status you want. It screws on once through the two tabs, top and bottom, beside the entrance, and stays there all year: the maker rates it as resistant to rain, sun and frost.

02 · AT A GLANCE

You read the colour before the words

Each status has its own colour and face, so from several metres away you already know which hive you are heading for. The six printed statuses are:

· Healthy & strong · No brood or no queen · Queen in the cage

· Weak development · Removal required · Aggressive bees

Those six are fixed and cannot be changed: the disc flags one situation, it does not keep a record. Logging stores or treatments inspection by inspection needs a card system.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The disc is printed in one language only, the one you pick above: if you share an apiary, choose the language of whoever will be reading it, not yours. And count on one per hive — each disc stays screwed to its own.
