01 · WHAT IT IS

An aromatic component of thyme

Thymol is the main aromatic component of thyme essential oil, and comes as colourless crystals with an intense, penetrating smell. It is used as a flavouring and essence in its authorised applications. It is the substance, not a formulation: it carries no leaflet, no posology and no veterinary indications, because it is not a medicine.

02 · WHAT IT IS NOT

Not a treatment, and no substitute for one

You often ask us how it is administered and at what dose. The honest answer is that we cannot give you a protocol, and not for lack of willingness: preparing your own varroa treatment from this raw material is an unlawful practice, whether it is made with thymol or with anything else. If what you want is to treat, the route is an authorised veterinary medicine with its summary of product characteristics, and the catalogue carries those registered for varroa.

03 · STORAGE

Closed, cool and away from food

Keep it in its container, tightly closed, somewhere cool, dry and ventilated, and away from honey and wax: it is highly volatile and strongly scented, and can pass its smell to whatever sits near it in a store. Handle it with gloves and avoid breathing the dust; in direct contact it can irritate skin and mucous membranes.
