Green 0.40 mm nitrile gloves with a double-stitched cotton gauntlet, in sizes 8 to 11: the gloves for treatments and cleaning, not for opening hives. Certified category III PPE to EN ISO 374-1 type A (code AJKLPOT) and EN ISO 374-5 against microorganisms. Latex-free.

Leather soaks up oxalic, soda and disinfectant and rots with them: those jobs need nitrile, and thick enough not to tear on the first snag.

01 · WHAT FOR

Oxalic, soda, disinfection and dirty gear

Trickling or spraying oxalic acid, washing gear in soda, disinfecting boxes and tools, cleaning the wax melter and the settling tank: everything a leather glove soaks up and keeps from one session to the next. Nitrile does not absorb, rinses clean and also suits anyone allergic to latex. For inspecting hives, leather or breathable gloves are still better: this one does not protect from stings like those and is not meant to.

02 · THICKNESS AND GAUNTLET

0.40 mm and double stitching where they split

0.40 mm is the middle ground: a barrier against chemicals and splashes, and enough feel to open a tank gate or move a frame during treatment; a thin disposable tears and a stiff industrial glove lets you feel nothing. The cotton gauntlet covers the forearm and joins the nitrile with double stitching, which is where mixed gloves open up. Put them on by pulling the nitrile a little at a time: they are snug and one yank tears them.

03 · THE CERTIFICATION

Category III PPE, EN ISO 374 type A

They are category III Personal Protective Equipment (EU Regulation 2016/425), the one reserved for serious risks, tested to EN ISO 374-1:2016 type A: over 30 minutes’ resistance to seven substances, among them 40 % caustic soda, 30 % hydrogen peroxide and 37 % formaldehyde, and EN ISO 374-5:2016 against microorganisms, for handling with suspected foulbrood or chalkbrood. Certified by SATRA (notified body). For treatments, follow the medicine’s sheet on glove and contact time.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

One pair of the chosen size is supplied; for apiary visits, the leather or breathable gloves of the same range.
