Super for French Dadant Blatt straight-frame hives. Galician maritime pine, 25 mm thick, with dovetail joinery, handles cut into the wood and a linseed oil finish. Includes 9 straight wired frames and a galvanised spacer — ready to stack and produce. External dimensions 430×170×500 mm. NOT compatible with National, Commercial, American Dadant, Langstroth or migratory hives.
The super is the piece that separates a hive that just survives from one that produces bottled honey. On French Dadant Blatt straight-frame hives, stacking this super at the start of the spring nectar flow is what stands between a proper harvest and leaving everything to the bees for lack of room. It arrives ready to use, with its 9 straight wired frames already fitted and the spacer in place.
Compatibility: French Dadant Blatt straight-frame only. It fits French Dadant Blatt brood boxes (430 × 500 mm external). It is not compatible with National, Commercial, WBC, American Dadant or Langstroth, and it is not designed for migratory beekeeping — moving the hive on a lorry requires additional securing such as fix-elem clips, ratchet straps or side hooks. In a stationary apiary it sits on the brood box by gravity, with no fastening.
Built to last many seasons. Solid maritime pine from Galicia (Pinus pinaster), 25 mm thick, kiln-dried to 12% moisture and seasoned before assembly. It carries a phytosanitary heat treatment with no chemicals that could migrate into the honey or affect the bees, and a linseed oil finish that protects the outside of the wood without sealing the pores. The four corners are joined with dovetail joints reinforced with internal screws — the dovetail spreads the load along the whole joint and absorbs the humidity and temperature cycles without opening, which is the difference between a box that ages well and one that starts coming apart after three seasons. The handles are cut directly into the side walls, not screwed on: nothing to work loose when you lift a super full of honey (easily 15-20 kg).
Ready to produce from day one. It includes 9 straight wired frames already fitted inside the box and a galvanised frame spacer that holds the exact distance between frames. That constant spacing is precisely what justifies straight frames over Hoffman: the spacing comes from the bar, not from the frame itself. You won't need to buy frames separately or spend an afternoon wiring them — just fix the foundation and stack on top of the brood box when the main flow starts (orange blossom, rosemary, heather or chestnut depending on your region).
