25 LIDS PER PACK | TO 63 DEEP MOUTH |
4 CLOSING LUGS | 100 °C 60 MIN, PASTEURISATION |
Pack of 25 silver Twist-Off TO 63 deep-skirt lids, pasteurisable and food-safe: the lid for the tall-finish 63 mm jars.
Diameter does not decide. A standard TO 63 goes onto these jars and turns just as smoothly, but it bears in the wrong place. The skirt is what matters.
01 · COMPATIBILITY
This is the lid for the Apiari 0,5 kg TO63 Deep and the Aura 370 TO63 Deep. They are the only two 63 mm jars in the catalogue with the long neck, and both product pages say so: a standard TO 63 will not seat properly on them.
The rule is the jar name. If it says Deep or high mouth, it takes this lid; if it does not, the jar has a standard finish and takes the low TO 63, which you have in the full colour range. This deep skirt is only made in silver.
02 · WHAT THE DEEP SKIRT DOES
A tall-finish jar has the same mouth diameter, but the glass keeps rising above the point where an ordinary lid ends. A short skirt closes on air: it screws on, hits the stop and looks right, but the bead of liner sits above the rim instead of being pressed against it. You find out days later — the jar weeps, or the honey picks up moisture — and by then the batch is filled. The deep skirt covers that whole neck and puts the liner where the glass bears.
03 · THE LINER SEALS ONCE
What seals is the ring of liner inside: on the first closure it takes the imprint of the glass rim and never goes flat again, so a reused lid bears on its own mark. On a jar for your own shelf it will do a second time; for honey you sell, a new lid per jar.
And one clarification that saves a scare: honey is filled cold, so no vacuum forms — there is no hot vapour to condense — and the centre button neither drops nor clicks. The lid is not faulty: with honey the seal is mechanical. Vacuum only appears if you hot-fill or pasteurise.
FROM THE APIARY
A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the four lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there — carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again: there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
You are buying 25 lids: jars are sold separately. Keep them bagged until you fill, between 5 and 35 °C and below 70 % relative humidity — the liner degrades before the metal does.
