IzoVar queen isolator for biotechnical varroa control. It temporarily confines the queen and creates a brood break that leaves the mites in the phoretic phase, where an authorised treatment works better. Tough polypropylene, mounts centrally or to one side on the frame, with a removable filler and hinged flap to release or replace the queen without breaking down the nest.

Details of IzoVar Queen Bee Isolator

Varroa only reproduces inside sealed brood, so when the brood season stretches out and treatments start losing ground to resistance, breaking that cycle is the sensible move. The IzoVar queen isolator creates that controlled brood break by temporarily confining the queen to a section of comb — a cornerstone of biotechnical control against Varroa destructor. It was developed together with Professor Krzysztof Olszewski, a specialist in biotechnical varroa control.

🌿 Why the brood break matters

With no sealed brood, varroa has nowhere to reproduce and shifts to the phoretic phase, exposed on the adult bees. In that window an authorised treatment acts on the mites far more effectively and, as a rule, with a lighter chemical load on the colony. It is how you stop relying solely on repeated acaricide applications over capped brood.

🔧 Polypropylene built for the hive

Made from polypropylene (PP), a plastic with good mechanical, chemical and thermal resistance. It does not react with the substances inside the hive and copes with both summer heat and autumn and winter cold, so it can stay fitted season after season without warping or giving off odours.

🔄 Flexible fitting, queen well cared for

It mounts on the frame centrally or to one side, depending on the nest layout (cold way or warm way), and moves easily to a fresh comb when needed. The roomy inner chamber and removable filler stop comb being drawn inside the isolator while still leaving room for movement and contact between the queen and the workers. That contact keeps pheromones circulating and the colony cohesive, and the generous chamber aims to keep confinement from affecting the queen's condition.

⚙️ Hinged top flap: release without breaking down the nest

The hinged top flap lets you release the queen without dismantling the nest — quick and stress-free for bees and beekeeper alike. The same opening lets you introduce a caged queen or a queen cell, so you can combine the brood break with requeening in a single operation. In the thick of the season, that time saved adds up.

📅 A tool for the whole year

Left on the comb, the isolator can stay in the colony all season: there is no need to fit it before each confinement or remove it afterwards. It suits different jobs by season — in spring to help manage the swarming urge, in summer and autumn as a complement to varroa control by interrupting brood, and in long winter confinements to halt brood rearing. Adapt it to your area, your infestation level and your calendar.

⚠️ Responsible use: the isolator is a biotechnical management tool that complements varroa control; it is not a treatment in itself and does not replace one. Any treatment must be carried out with authorised veterinary medicines in line with their datasheet and the applicable regulations. The method calls for a calendar and regular checks, and works best in strong, well-managed colonies.
