Dominguez® crown board for wooden Dadant Blatt hives: 3 cm pine rim, dark panel and central round hole with a mesh plug, 50 × 43 cm. It goes between the top bars and the outer roof.
The 3 cm rim is what makes it special: it leaves room over the frames for fondant or a syrup bag without the roof sitting proud.
01 · THE SIZE
50 × 43, the wooden Dadant Blatt footprint
It is made for the Dominguez wooden Dadant Blatt body, 50 × 43 cm outside, the French and Italian standard. The Dadant US common in Spain is a centimetre wider and sits wrong: measure the body outside before ordering.
02 · WHAT THE RIM IS FOR
Three centimetres of chamber over the top bars
Rim down, it leaves about three centimetres between the top bars and the panel: room for a syrup bag, a slab of fondant or a protein patty without crushing bees; flat side down, it closes flush. The central hole has a mesh plug that ventilates without letting bees through: take it out for an upturned round feeder or a bee escape, and put it back, because an open hole is robbing.
03 · HOW IT SEATS
Flat, with no brace comb
Before closing, scrape brace comb and propolis off the body rim so it sits flat, without rocking, and the outer roof on top. At each inspection look at the panel: damp, cracks or warping bring condensation closer to the brood. It does not replace a watertight roof.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The crown board alone is supplied; for Langstroth and Dadant US, the one with a 4 cm rim and vent.
