A hive with a super or the brood box alone

The complete migratory Langstroth hive includes a brood box and super. The brood-box-only version lets you start with that body or use supers you already own. The difference affects the supplied equipment and honey space, not the number of frame positions in the brood box.

Full-depth and shallow Langstroth supers are also available. Shallow supers divide a harvest between lower boxes, at the cost of handling more boxes. Keeping one frame format across existing hives simplifies frame interchange and super preparation.

A correctly closing roof and properly supported floor

The easy-opening roof and Domínguez mesh floor are parts of the migratory system. For replacements, compare the box’s external dimensions and closure, rather than relying only on the Langstroth name. The special Dadant Blatt crown board also has its own reference and should not be confused with a Dadant US part.

For queen rearing, the two-compartment mating nuc uses half-frames that can be joined into one Langstroth frame. This lets a donor colony of the same format prepare the material while the two compartments remain separate during mating.
