01 · THE SIZE

51.5 × 43: the Dominguez footprint, not every Langstroth’s

Dominguez Langstroth and Dadant US bodies measure 51.5 × 43 outside and this floor takes them flush. Many other brands’ bodies run 51 × 42.5, leaving a play of about 5 mm, the one a review complains about: not a defect, another footprint. Measure your brood box outside before ordering and before painting.

02 · HOW IT IS MADE

Mesh, tray at the back and migratory latch

A 4 cm pine frame with the 40 × 40 mesh and a central bar; underneath, a dark board tray that slides in from the back: put it in to count varroa fall or close the floor in the cold, take it out the rest of the year to ventilate. On the side, a metal latch joining body and floor for migration; a French review would prefer removable latches for spring washing.

03 · WHEN TO USE IT

Ventilate in summer, count mites in autumn

Without the tray, the open floor lets damp and heat out and avoids August bearding; with the tray, you count what falls over three days before and after treating. Mesh with a brush or pressure water; the wood is painted outside.
