01 · THE FOOTPRINT

430 × 515 outside: check yours before ordering

It is the mailbox question. Body and super of the Domínguez series measure 430 × 515 mm outside with 24 mm timber, and that is the footprint to compare: a 54 × 40 hive, like the one a customer described, is not Langstroth and this super does not fit it. With the house’s migratory Langstroths, complete hive or brood box alone, it fits as is; with another maker’s Langstroth, measure the outside footprint, because frames are standard but boxes not always.

02 · THE FRAMES

Ten wired Hoffman frames of 48 × 23, ready for foundation

The frames are bevelled, wired Langstroth Hoffman, 445 × 230 mm outside with a 480 top bar and 425 × 203 inside. The Hoffman profile sets the spacing without strips or clips. Only foundation is missing, which is not declared included: fit it before adding the super, and as they are the same frames as the brood box, a brood frame can go up to the super and vice versa.

03 · THE TIMBER

HT-treated maritime pine, jointed and nailed

Pinus pinaster with HT phytosanitary treatment (registration ES-37-0012), interlocked joints nailed with threaded nails, like the rest of the series. Being wood, small variations between units are possible. It weighs about 10 kg with frames, empty of honey. One review calls it very complete and good quality, and expensive; the price includes the ten wired frames.

04 · ON THE ROAD

A series with catches, but the straps are yours

It is the Domínguez migratory series, the one with easy-open catches between modules on the complete hive. Before moving, check joints and bearing and strap the whole set: the hive’s fittings do not replace the lashing or the ventilation of the transport.

One super with its 10 frames is supplied; foundation, the complete CDOM001 hive and the SOLOCAMDOM brood box come separately.
