Swienty aluminium dispenser for administering CO₂ when counting varroa on adult bees. It uses unthreaded 16 g cartridges and allows the CO₂ method to be used with a VarroaTester or compatible counting container. This is the injector only: the cartridge and sampling container are not included.

📐 Be aware of the two cartridge standards

This 228555 model pierces smooth, unthreaded cartridges. Do not confuse it with the official Véto-pharma injector for Varroa EasyCheck, which uses threaded 16 g cartridges. Before ordering replacements, inspect the cartridge neck and dispenser connection: a threaded cartridge and a pierceable one are not interchangeable.

🔬 Reliable results require a repeatable sample

Take bees from frames containing sealed brood and ensure the queen is not included in the sample. Introduce gas through the container duct, never directly towards the bees' faces, and follow the timings and movements specified by the manufacturer of your container. Record bee count, mite count, date and colony so that readings can be compared; improvised sample quantities or shaking make results incomparable.

🌿 Measuring varroa is not the same as treating it

CO₂ helps dislodge mites for counting and allows the bees to be returned after recovery, but it does not remove the colony's infestation. Use the reading before and after treatment and compare it with local thresholds. If the count calls for intervention, use only authorised veterinary medicines and follow their product information.

⚠️ Pressurised cartridge

Insert the cartridge with the dispenser closed and handle it gently: a new charge is under high pressure. Do not expose it to heat, do not point the duct at people, and do not remove a cartridge until it is completely empty. Keep the set away from children and protected from impacts.
