Rear galvanised steel hinge, widely used on Layens hives to connect the lid to the body and make opening more controlled. It is a small fitting, but when lids are heavy or the wind picks up, not having to place the lid loose on the ground is a real convenience.
Mounted at the back, the hinge lets the lid lift like a door. That reduces knocks, keeps the lid out of mud or grass and makes the hive tidier during quick inspections.
The galvanised finish helps resist humidity and outdoor use. It works well for repairing lids, making your own equipment or replacing tired fittings before the lid develops play.
