JERO hive tool, 25 cm, made of stainless steel for routine hive opening and cleaning tasks. It combines a wide blade for scraping wax and propolis with a curved end that helps to start separating stuck frames or hive bodies.
Use the blade on frame top bars, frame rests and wooden surfaces to remove bridges of wax and propolis. The curved edge allows you to get into a joint or rest it under a frame, but force should be applied to the sturdy wood, never to the comb. If a joint is very tightly sealed, open it gradually at several points rather than prying at a single edge.
Remove any residue before the propolis hardens, wash the tool in accordance with the apiary’s hygiene protocol, and dry it. If any burrs appear, smooth them down evenly whilst maintaining the original angle; there is no need to turn the scraper into a cutting edge. An excessively sharp edge increases the risk of cuts and of marking the wood.
