Details of Hive tool 20 cm

Compact beekeeping scraper, 20 cm, made from stainless steel. One end forms a right-angled lever for lifting crown boards or loosening stuck components; the other provides a flat edge for scraping wax and propolis from top bars, frame rests and hive floors.

🔧 Compact and manoeuvrable, though not offering maximum leverage

Its 20 cm length takes up little space, making it ideal as an everyday or spare tool. However, it offers less leverage than a hive tool of greater length. If the hive bodies have been fused together for months by hardened propolis, work on several points gradually rather than twisting the scraper or applying all the force to a single corner of the wood.

🐝 Separate before lifting

First break the propolis seal between the frame lugs and the rest; then pry open the frame from both ends. This reduces the risk of splintering the top bar or crushing bees when releasing the frame in one go. To scrape, rest the edge at a shallow angle and make controlled strokes.

Remove any residue after use, wash where necessary, and dry the tool before storing it. Stainless steel makes maintenance easier, but it does not turn the scraper into a hammer, chisel or striking tool.
