01 · TWO TAPS, AND TWO-INCH ONES

Watch out if you are coming from a smaller machine

The outlet is two stainless 2-inch taps, that is DN50: the big-machine calibre. Entry-range extractors carry a single one, and in inch and a half.

That means stepping up a range also means changing your line: inch-and-a-half hoses, filters and maturers do not screw on without a reducer. Worth solving before the machine arrives, not mid-harvest.

02 · THE CYCLES ARE PROGRAMMED

And that is what protects the comb

A frame with wax drawn this season does not take the same treatment as one three years old. Being able to set a gentle start, a progressive ramp and a time per phase is what stops new combs breaking, which is where the money really goes.

It also lets you match the cycle to the honey: a dense honey wants more time at the same speed before it wants more revolutions. With closed programmes you cannot fine-tune that.

03 · €908 OVER THE BASIC SIX

And it helps to know what that buys

Our range has a six-frame BASIC for about nine hundred euros less. It is not the same machine: here the drum is Ø 1,000 mm instead of 800, the motor is a 370 W geared unit instead of a 12 V 150 W one, and the cycles are free.

If you extract a few weeks a year and pace does not matter, the BASIC does the job. If the machine will run for days on end and you want to tune the cycle, this is the one.

04 · DOUBLE SUPPORT AND E-STOP

Details you notice with a full drum

The cage is mounted on double support, top and bottom, which is what keeps it stable with six deep frames spinning. The drum is reinforced around its perimeter and carries soft-PVC anti-vibration pads.

On safety, the motor stops when the lid is opened and there is also an emergency button. The lid is 4 mm acrylic, so you watch the whole cycle without opening anything.

05 · IT ARRIVES ASSEMBLED ON A PALLET

Which is no small matter

It ships assembled, on a pallet. Entry-range extractors arrive dismantled in a box with the legs apart: here there is no assembly, but you do need to plan for pallet unloading and room to manoeuvre.

It is 45 kg and a metre across. Think about the workshop door and the final spot before ordering, because once it is down it does not move on its own.
