Details of Silicone Hose for HARBO Syringe (approx. 10 cm)

A length of about 10 cm of silicone tube for the HARBO insemination syringe (2214, 2630): the flexible connector joining the glass tip (2635) to the storage capillary (2629, 3270) and the capillary to the syringe line, and the plug that seals the ends of the capillary when keeping semen. Cut to size and replaced as soon as it loses elasticity; the Schley system uses another tube (2349).

In instrumental insemination one bubble spoils everything: the plunger answers spongy and the dose stops being a dose; the tightness of the line comes from these centimetres of silicone.

01 · WHAT IT JOINS

Tip, capillary and line, and the capillary seal

Cutting short lengths, the glass tip is joined to the capillary and the capillary to the syringe line: changing tip or capillary takes seconds without losing the semen already collected. Other lengths, closed at one end, act as plugs to seal the full capillary while it is kept. Silicone is inert, reacting neither with the saline diluent nor with semen, and flexible, so it grips the glass and keeps the line free of air.

02 · WHEN TO CHANGE IT

A consumable: as soon as it dries out or stops sealing

Silicone loses elasticity with use and washing, and its inside cannot be cleaned without compromising sterility: it is a spare, not a maintenance part. Replace it as soon as it dries, softens or lets air in at the joint, which shows in the plunger’s response.

03 · WHICH VERSION

HARBO, not Schley

It is reference 2.173 of the HARBO system, with the bore of its tips and capillaries; the Schley system tube is 1.15 (2349) and is not the same.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

A length of about 10 cm is supplied; tips, capillaries and syringe come separately.
