Details of HARBO-Syringe 2.0 modified by SCHLEY with stand (complete kit)

The HARBO 2.0 syringe in its Schley version: solid metal, a support base and the connectors to move from one system to the other.

It is the part that lets a single bench work both systems. HARBO and Schley are two schools of instrumental insemination with different syringes. This is the HARBO 2.0 modified by Schley: it keeps full compatibility with the HARBO system and comes with the connectors to convert it to the conventional Schley format when needed.

01 · WHERE IT SITS IN THE PROCESS

The semen does not travel through the needle

In this system the semen is collected and held in a glass capillary coupled to the syringe by a length of flexible tubing. The micrometer pushes the column precisely and the glass tip is what goes into the queen; each one receives a dose of the order of 8 to 12 microlitres, deposited in the median oviduct.

That is why the capillary and the tip are separate parts and are replaced separately: the capillary is the working reservoir and the tip is the last stretch that touches the queen.

02 · SOLID METAL AND A BASE

At micron scale, stability is half the work

The syringe is made of solid metal, not plastic or thin tube, and you notice it in fine handling: it does not flex and it does not wander. The support base included holds it fixed to the bench and frees a hand for the rest of the manoeuvre.

It is the kind of detail that separates a comfortable insemination session from one spent fighting the instrument.

03 · WHAT THE SET CONTAINS

With starter consumables, not just the syringe

It comes with 5 glass tips for HARBO-type insemination and 10 storage capillaries of 50 µl, plus the rubber plunger, the silicone sealing sleeve and the syringe sleeve (reference 1.14). And all the connectors needed to swap between the HARBO and Schley configurations.

The tips are consumables: they break and get replaced, so it is worth having spares on the bench before a session starts. The 50 µl capillaries are the smaller version; for inseminating batches or working with semen pooled from many drones there is the 100 µl one, which carries twice as much.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is the injection instrument, not the whole station.

✓ FITSHARBO and Schley equipment: it carries the connectors for both and converts from one format to the other.
⚠ STARTER CONSUMABLES5 tips and 10 capillaries of 50 µl to begin with. They are restocked separately, as is the 100 µl capillary.
✕ NOT THE STATIONIt does not include the queen holding tube, the opening hooks, the optics or the anaesthesia system: that is the complete rig.
