01 · WHAT THE PLASTIC BRINGS

It insulates all year and never rots

The walls of boxes and supers carry a polystyrene core between two layers of plastic: that cavity keeps the inside temperature steadier through heat spikes and cold nights, and the colony spends less energy on thermoregulation. The white is not decorative: it reflects radiation and stops the inside overheating in summer — which is why it comes that way and needs no painting. The material takes up no water and does not rot: it stands the weather season after season and resists the usual disinfectants of the trade — caustic potash, oxalic acid and formic acid — so it can be washed out thoroughly without harm. At 11 kg the whole thing is moved and inspected with far less effort than a wooden one, which runs to about 30.

02 · THE BOXES DO NOT LOCK TOGETHER

Fit fasteners: not an extra, part of the assembly

It is the single most repeated point among people who own one, and worth knowing before buying: the boxes stack but do not lock. Put a super on top and the stack slides with very little — a nudge, an inspection, a gust — and there is no gasket that stops it. The fix is cheap and takes an afternoon: latches or straps between floor, boxes and roof. On migratory work or an exposed site it is mandatory; on a sheltered static apiary it is still the first thing you will miss.

03 · WHICH FLOOR YOU CHOOSE

The tray is what turns a floor into an instrument

The floor is chosen when ordering, and it changes what the hive can do. The plain floor is a closed base, the straightforward everyday option. The ventilated one has mesh and improves moisture escape, but comes without a tray: what falls, falls to the ground. The LockFit screened floor adds a removable tray, a door and legs, and that is the real difference — with a sticky sheet in the tray you can count the natural varroa drop and keep a series through the season. It does not treat varroosis, but it lets you decide with a number instead of an impression.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The kit is floor + two boxes + roof. It does not include frames — bought separately, Langstroth 48 × 23 cm, straight-sided or Hoffman both fit — nor a crown board or an entrance reducer. The roof has four adjustable ventilation valves, and the boxes can be branded to identify your equipment. It is made in white only: there are no other colours.
