ANEL® Langstroth plastic hive, a complete kit (bottom board + 2 boxes + roof) with an insulating polystyrene core. Just 11 kg: easy to handle and transport, washes out thoroughly and won't rot. You choose the bottom board: solid, ventilated or LockFit screened (with a tray to keep an eye on varroa).
The ANEL® Langstroth plastic hive is a complete kit —bottom board, two boxes and roof— for the beekeeper who wants the benefits of technical plastic without leaving the tried-and-tested Langstroth format. Its big selling point is the light weight: at roughly 11 kg, you can move it and work it with far less effort than a timber hive. And now you choose the bottom board that best suits how you work —solid, ventilated or LockFit screened— without switching to a different listing.
The brood boxes and supers feature a polystyrene core sandwiched between two plastic skins. That insulating wall keeps the inside temperature steadier through heatwaves and cold nights, so the colony spends less energy on thermoregulation. The white finish reflects the sun's radiation and helps keep the interior from overheating in summer.
Plastic doesn't take on water or rot, it stands up to the weather season after season and cleans easily. It withstands the usual beekeeping disinfectants —caustic potash, oxalic acid and formic acid— so you can disinfect thoroughly without damaging the material.
It takes the standard Langstroth frame, the same one in the brood box and in the super, so you swap boxes around to follow the flow without any fuss. The roof comes with 4 ventilation valves to regulate airflow, and the boxes can be branded with a hot iron to mark your kit as your own.
· Solid bottom board — a closed floor, the simple, no-nonsense option for everyday work.
· Ventilated bottom board — a mesh floor: it improves ventilation and helps clear out moisture (no tray).
· LockFit screened bottom board — mesh with a removable tray, an entrance door and legs: as well as ventilating, the tray lets you count the natural varroa mite drop to keep an eye on the infestation. It doesn't treat varroosis on its own, but it's your best ally for monitoring it.
⚠ Please note: the frames are not included (you choose them in timber or plastic, Langstroth format). And for migratory beekeeping or windy sites, secure the boxes to one another with clips or straps: they stack snugly, but they aren't fixed together from the factory.
