Plastic frame for Kieler mating nuclei, with built-in comb base to guide wax drawing. Bees accept it better when waxed before first use. Dimensions: 70 x 90 x 22 mm.
When working with Kieler mating nuclei, every detail matters. One often overlooked element is the type of frame you use. This plastic frame with integrated comb guide is a small but powerful aid to help bees start building wax properly in mini mating hives.
Specifically designed for Kieler nuclei: lightweight, durable, reusable and with a central strip that mimics the base of a wax foundation. This gives the bees a clear reference to begin drawing comb. One field tip: for first-time use, coat it with a bit of melted beeswax. That initial layer greatly improves acceptance and speeds up comb construction.
We’ve tested it during intensive queen rearing campaigns, especially in Kieler nuclei placed in rosemary and lavender areas. In all cases, bees accepted it faster when wax was pre-applied, and the comb developed clean and evenly.
Its compact format (70 mm high x 90 mm wide x 22 mm deep) makes it fully compatible with the classic Kieler nucleus and allows working with up to three frames per hive. Easy to clean and reusable with proper handling.
Recommendations:
• Wax the base before first use
• Handle gently to avoid twisting
• Only compatible with Kieler-type nuclei
Dimensions: 70 x 90 x 22 mm
