48.2 cm DADANT US TOP BAR | 44.8 cm FRAME BODY WIDTH |
4 SECTIONS PER FRAME | 10 × 10 cm SECTION SIZE |
An empty super frame that works as a carrier: it holds four 10 × 10 cm wooden sections so you harvest comb honey already portioned.
No wire and no foundation here. The frame arrives hollow and what goes inside are the wooden sections ref. BR-68040, sold separately: the bees build inside each one, and that piece is what ends up on the stall. Format Dadant US / Dadant-Beer, honey super frame.
01 · WHERE IT GOES
Comb honey is made upstairs, on fresh wax and above the queen excluder: that is why this frame is super height and not brood height. In the brood box the bees fill the sections with pollen and eggs. In the super, with a strong colony and a real nectar flow — rosemary, orange blossom, lavender, eucalyptus — the four sections are drawn and capped within the same flow. A borderline colony will not fill them.
02 · ASSEMBLY
The sections rest on the bottom bar and slide in side by side; the top bar closes them from above and they stay put with no screws and no bands. They carry no foundation, so to keep the comb straight run a starter strip or a thin line of molten wax along the groove of each section. Once the comb is capped you lift the frame and take all four out: no uncapping, no extractor, no honey tank.
03 · MEASUREMENTS
This is the Dadant US honey super frame: 48.2 cm top bar resting on the rebate, 44.8 cm body inside the super and 14.1 cm high, the manufacturer's figure. With that top bar it also hangs in Langstroth, which shares the same 48.2 cm; but not every shallow super runs a frame of the same height, so measure the inside depth before mixing kit. Dadant Blatt, at 47 cm, and Layens are out.
04 · AFTER THE HARVEST
Each section leaves the apiary with its comb inside and does not come back: it is presented in its box or bag and it is what the customer buys. The frame lasts season after season, so you only replace the small woodware. Before storing, a spell in the freezer at -15 °C for about two hours — checking the whole mass reaches that temperature — breaks the wax moth cycle.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It is sold singly and arrives empty: each frame needs four sections ref. BR-68040, bought separately. And it is not the APIBOX system, which uses plastic tubs inside its own pre-cut frame: these wooden sections do not fit an APIBOX frame, and APIBOX tubs do not fit here.
