Polystyrene super for the KIELER® mating nuc: adds about 10.5 cm of height and six rebates for 170 mm bars or mini frames, and stacks between the nuc body and its roof. The box alone is supplied, without bars.
It is the Kieler’s upper floor: once the queen is laying and the four frames below are full, six more bars upstairs buy time before you have to take her out.
01 · WHEN TO ADD IT
The Kieler body takes four frames with the feeder in, and as soon as the mated queen lays it gets small within two weeks. The super gives six more bars: a queen held in reserve for a few weeks, wintering as a double mini colony, or brood before introduction. Too early is worse than nothing: 150 grams of bees cannot heat twice the volume.
02 · HOW IT FITS
It stacks on the body, same footprint, and the ventilated roof goes on top in the super’s rebate. A French review found it stiff to fit: present it flat and press on all four sides, without forcing a corner or sanding. Scrape brace comb off the rim first and set the bars parallel in the six rebates.
03 · WHAT ARRIVES
Only the super: 170 mm bars or mini frames, body, floor, feeder and roof belong to the nuc and come separately. Clean with hot water and a brush, no flame or solvent, and store dry and flat.
