Polystyrene super for increasing the comb capacity of a KIELER mating nuc. It adds approximately 10.5 cm in height and accommodates up to six wooden slats or mini frames, which are not included. This is an additional chamber, not a feeder.
The super is useful when the combs in the lower body are well-developed and the colony needs additional space. Placing it too early increases the volume that a small colony must regulate and monitor. Before adding it, check comb occupancy, reserves, population and the weather forecast; more space alone will not remedy a weak nuc.
This data sheet relates to the polystyrene super. The six wooden slats or mini frames, the lower body, the base, the feeder and the lid form part of the nuc and are not included with this piece.
The extension allows more comb to be built, but does not determine mating success or queen acceptance. These stages continue to depend on the condition of the colony, the weather, the availability of drones and the management of the nuc.
To clean, remove wax and propolis with gentle strokes, taking care not to press the hive tool into the polystyrene. Do not use an open flame, solvents or any heat source that could cause it to warp. Store the super in a dry place, laid flat and protected from knocks and rodents.
