01 · WHAT IS MISSING TO MAKE A NUCLEUS

The parts of the system, one by one

Underneath goes the family's open-mesh floor — 60 × 31 cm, with a slot for the divider —, on top the lid, and into the floor go the entrance sliders, sold in pairs because that floor can be split into two compartments. The Langstroth frames, 48 × 23 cm, do not come either: six of them fit.

If what you want is the whole nucleus, the complete kit exists, with divider, double entrance, mesh floor and reversible roof. This item is for someone who already has the system and needs one more body.

02 · WHY BUY IT SEPARATELY

To give the nucleus a second storey

That is the use that justifies selling it on its own: when a six-frame nucleus runs out of room, you put another identical body on top and it has twelve, without changing format or transferring to a full hive.

What it will not do is serve as a super on a ten-frame hive: it is a six-frame body, and the footprint does not match.

03 · WHY POLYSTYRENE

It insulates, it weighs nothing, and it has to be painted

EPS at over 100 kg/m³ insulates far better than timber, and in a small volume that shows: the colony spends less on climate control and starts earlier in spring. It weighs a little over a kilo and a half, so it moves with one hand.

In exchange it asks for two things: paint it on the outside with UV-filtering water-based paint — raw sun cracks it over time — and do not lever hard on the rebate.
