Lid made from expanded polystyrene (EPS) for six-frame Paradise Honey nucs in Langstroth or Dadant format. It seals the top of the hive and provides an insulating barrier for a colony which, due to its smaller population and volume, can quickly show signs of a poorly fitted lid or a draught.
The indication ‘six frames’ is not sufficient to confirm a fit between brands. This lid is moulded to fit the corresponding Paradise Honey nuc: the perimeter, the support surface and the lower contours must match the body. If your nuc is from another manufacturer or a different series, check the part number and geometry before ordering.
EPS limits some of the heat exchange through the top, but the moisture and heat from the nuc continue to depend on the ventilation of the hive as a whole, the hive entrance, the colony’s population and the climate. Do not seal openings or add layers that alter the system without first checking for condensation and observing the colony’s behaviour.
Remove the propolis using a tool with a smooth edge, taking care not to gouge out the material. Avoid direct flame, water at a temperature that could deform the part, and solvents not authorised for use with EPS. Allow the lid to dry before storing it, and lay it flat to preserve its shape.
This part number applies only to the lid. The body of the nuc, base, frames, spacers and other components of the system are not included.
