01 · TANGENTIAL: MORE FORCE PER FRAME

Which is why it gets out what a radial leaves

In a tangential the comb takes the centrifugal force flat on, not edge on, and that is what empties dense, viscous honeys — heather, bell heather, bramble — that a radial leaves stuck in the cell.

It is also the machine for partially capped frames or uneven cells, where a radial performs erratically. In exchange it moves fewer frames per cycle: six brood or twelve half-supers, against the eighteen of a radial of similar size.

02 · TWENTY PROGRAMS, NOT TEN

The HE-02N controller changed in 2024

The HE-02N fitted to this extractor is the so-called hybrid controller, and it has twenty automatic programs in two groups: in group A you adjust only total time and speed, over a 50 to 100 % range; in group B you can modify every step of the cycle, with speed from 10 to 100 %.

On top of that there are four special modes, plus an hour counter and an alarm system. Cycle duration goes up to 1,800 seconds, half an hour, with a minimum five-second interval between steps.

03 · 2-INCH OUTLETS: THAT IS DN50

One size above the usual honey line

It has two 2-inch stainless valves, which is DN50. Worth bearing in mind, because much of the honey-house line — maturers, hoses and common fittings — runs in DN40, the inch and a half: they are not interchangeable without a reducer.

The drum is acid-resistant 0.6 mm stainless with reinforcement at the frame and top rim. The inner cage carries Ø2 and Ø5 mm rods and is supported top and bottom, which is what keeps vibration in check with an uneven load.

04 · THE LID CUTS THE MOTOR

But the drum keeps turning on its momentum

The lid is 4 mm clear acrylic with eight hinges: you follow the process without opening. The controller blocks operation if the lid is opened or the emergency button is pressed.

As on any extractor, that block cuts the motor but does not brake the basket: six loaded frames keep turning for a good while. Before reaching in, wait for a full stop.

05 · DAMPERS ON THE LEGS

What you appreciate with frames of unequal weight

It comes with soft PVC dampers on the legs. Not a cosmetic detail: when frames go in with different amounts of honey or different moisture — normal in late flows like strawberry tree or chestnut — the imbalance turns into vibration, and vibration into wear.

The outer structure is powder-coated steel. With the gearmotor underneath, the centre of gravity stays low and so does the noise.
