Stainless steel cutting plate, a spare for the roller of Carl Fritz uncapping machines — 6 mm mounting diameter.
On a roller uncapper the work is not done by the motor, it is done by the cutting plates. They sit on the turning shaft, and each one shaves a strip of cappings as the frame goes past. They wear, they bend on a badly presented frame or on a wire, and from then on the machine stops cutting cleanly.
The figure that settles compatibility is the 6 mm mounting diameter, which is where the plate fixes to the roller shaft. Before ordering, take off one of the plates you already have and measure that seat: if it is 6 mm, this is the part. If your uncapper works with chains rather than a plated roller — some vertical models do — this is not the part for it.
A worn plate does not announce itself with a noise, it announces itself in the result: cappings come away torn rather than shaved, patches stay closed and then refuse to give up their honey in the extractor, and the comb comes out rougher than it should. If you find any plate bent, nicked or with a rounded edge when you check the roller, change it. Keeping a couple spare in the honey house is worth it: they are cheap, and the failure always turns up with the honey already on the bench.
