When you walk into the honey house with a trailer full of heavy, dripping frames during a strong flow, the last thing you want is slow, manual uncapping. A “Dakota-style” rotary machine is built for that moment: feed the frame in, get it back uncapped, and keep your extraction line moving.

This is a universal rotary uncapping machine (friction system) designed to handle the common formats you’ll see in Europe: Layens, Dadant, Langstroth and medium supers. It uses an infeed conveyor and an outfeed conveyor with a stainless modular belt, plus a cutting area with two knife shafts (lower and upper) that continuously remove cappings as the frame advances.

Power is straightforward and reliable: a single-phase 1 HP motor drives the knife shafts, and a single-phase 0.5 HP gearmotor drives the conveyors. Underneath, a cappings collection tray keeps things tidy and lets you later connect a press, a wax melter or a cappings spinner/centrifuge to process cappings properly.

Field tip: friction systems perform best when frames go in straight, with well-drawn comb and no major warping. If you’re running bowed frames, loose wires, or very old brittle comb, you’ll want to slow down and fine-tune settings to avoid tearing. And with very thick honey or hard cappings, keeping the room at working temperature helps the cut stay clean.
