01 · WHAT IS IN IT

Lysozyme in a glucose syrup

The declared composition is short: water, glucose, egg protein extract (lysozyme), salt, potassium sorbate and linseed oil. Lysozyme is a protein that occurs naturally in egg white and, in mammals, in tears and saliva; the food industry has used it as a preservative for decades. Here it arrives diluted in a glucose syrup, with potassium sorbate preserving the bottle itself.

02 · HOW TO FEED IT

Twenty-five millilitres in half a litre of syrup

Per hive, dilute 25 ml in at least 500 ml of sugar syrup, and never in less than 250 ml: below that the mix is too concentrated and the bees take it less readily. Feed that mix and, if needed, repeat after 15 days. The manufacturer recommends feeding at least twice a year: in spring, within the stimulative feed, and in late summer, when the winter bees are being reared.

03 · WHAT IT IS NOT

A feed, not a treatment

This needs saying plainly: it is not a medicine, it has no veterinary registration, and it neither treats nor prevents foulbrood. American and European foulbrood are notifiable diseases: if they appear at the apiary, the route is the official one — diagnosis and veterinary services — and no supplement substitutes for that, or for the health plan you already run.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

At 25 ml per hive, the 250 ml bottle gives ten applications and the 500 ml one twenty: with two rounds a year, that is five and ten hives respectively. The manufacturer mentions laboratory and field research but publishes no protocol or data we can check, so read it as what it is: the manufacturer's position. And the usual rule: do not feed during the flow if you intend to harvest that honey for sale.
