01 · WHAT IT IS

A plant supplement for feeding, with its legal category clear

The composition is short enough to read in full: plant bark extract, mint oil and purified water, with citric acid (E330) as an additive. Highly refined plant ingredients only, no pollen and nothing of animal origin, and it leaves no residue in honey or wax. It is registered and sold as a complementary feed for Apis mellifera, which is exactly what it is: something that goes with the autumn and spring feeding. Anything to do with diagnosing or treating a disease of the colony belongs elsewhere — with an authorised veterinary medicine and with your vet.

02 · HOW TO GIVE IT

1 ml per hive, and three ways of getting it in

The dose is the same in all three cases: 1 ml, which is 20 drops, per hive and per dose. You can dissolve it in about 200 ml of 1:1 syrup and give it in the feeder; work it into pollen substitute patty at 1 ml per 500 g; or dissolve it in those same 200 ml of syrup and spray it directly onto the bees. In large batches the ratio is the same — 1 ml per 200 ml of syrup — so the sum scales without surprises. The reference syrup is sugar and water in equal parts. Shake the bottle before each use: it is a plant extract and it settles.

03 · WHEN

Two doses in spring and two in autumn, ten days apart

The yearly protocol is four doses: two at the beginning of autumn and two in spring, ten days apart within each pair. Those are the two windows when the colony is being fed and when it makes sense to accompany that feeding — and the two that fall outside the flow, which is the condition that governs: it goes in during the autumn feed and before the spring blossom, not with the supers on. At 1 ml per hive and dose, the litre covers the four doses of 250 hives, or a two-dose season for 500. It is the operation format: the same product as the 200 ml bottle, with the lowest cost per hive in the range.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Once opened it is kept in the fridge until the next round; unopened, somewhere cool and dark. The declared shelf life is four years, so a litre will not spoil on you even if your apiary does not reach 250 hives — it is a question of how far ahead you want to buy. And if you have a veterinary medicine in use, its own leaflet governs: this neither changes nor replaces it.
