Details of Frame feeder DADANT Blatt 4 kg

The frame feeder is the cleanest and safest way to give syrup inside the hive: it has the shape of a Dadant Blatt frame (French measure, 47 cm top bar) and hangs in the brood box like any other. Made of rigid food-grade plastic with a 4 kg capacity, it keeps the feed at hive temperature — so it does not freeze — and lets the bees feed from inside, without opening the hive or fitting anything on top.

💧 Fills from the bottom up, without drowning bees

Its signature feature: a central channel through which you pour the syrup, so the reservoir fills from the bottom up and does not drown the bees already drinking. It includes two floaters (one on each side) and the inner walls are ribbed so the bees climb up and down without slipping; no need to clear the bees out to refill. Always close the channel window when you finish: if you leave it open, the bees drown.

📐 Pick the right top bar: Blatt 47 cm vs US 48 cm

This is the Dadant Blatt version, with a 47 cm top bar (the usual one in France and Italy). If your hive uses the Dadant US head (48 cm, common in Spain), this one will be about 1 cm short and won't sit snugly — in that case choose the Dadant US version, which we also stock. Within the right format it goes in tight; if needed, file the lugs down a touch. It does not fit well if the chamber has frame spacers.

🔄 More than just feeding

Because it keeps the syrup warm, it works very well for stimulative feeding at the start of the season. The small fill window reduces the risk of robbing. And outside the feeding season it has a second use: placed to one side, it acts as a side partition to reduce the space of a small colony.
