Mann Lake Pro Feeder for a deep Langstroth brood box, with a capacity of 1 US gallon (3.78 L) and a removable Cap & Ladder system. It is installed inside the hive to keep the syrup close to the active area and limit the surface area accessible to the bees.
The manufacturer specifies this for a deep chamber of 9 1/8″ and specifies a width of 2″ (5.08 cm). In a Langstroth box containing ten frames, this indicates a fit with nine new frames, but the spacing will change if you use notched strips, fixed spacers or heavily propolised frames. Do not assume it will occupy exactly one position: test the feeder and frames before closing the box.
The wooden lid features two access points leading to textured ramps inside the tank. The bees are concentrated in these feeding areas rather than walking across the entire surface of the liquid. Mann Lake has designed this to reduce the risk of drowning, not to guarantee that it is impossible: place the feeder level, check that the ramps are securely in place, and do not use it if any parts are damaged or missing.
Adjust the quantity according to colony strength, temperature, objective and consumption rate. The manufacturer advises removing the supers intended for honey harvest before feeding. Avoid spills that could lead to robbing and do not leave spoiled syrup inside. To clean, remove the entire assembly of lid and ladders, clear out any residue, rinse and allow the tank to dry before reassembling it.
