Details of Wax thermometer

Dial stem thermometer for molten wax, clipping onto the WarmMaster mini melter and adjustable in height so it reads inside the wax.

A thermostat measures where its probe is; the wax is somewhere else. Between one point and the other there can be ten or fifteen degrees, and that decides whether the wax comes out pale or dark.

01 · WHY THE THERMOSTAT IS NOT ENOUGH

It reads the wall or the bath, not the product

A thermostat regulates from its own probe, sitting against the element or the jacket. The wax in the middle runs behind, and the edge runs ahead.

With a window as narrow as wax's, that difference is what takes the colour.

02 · THE WAX WINDOW

Melts at 62-65 °C, darkens above 85

Beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C. Above 85 °C it darkens and loses its scent, and near 100 the water it carries makes it foam over.

The comfortable margin is between 65 and 80 °C, and knowing which of those you are at is what this tool does.

03 · HOW IT SITS

At the fill level, not at the rim

It clips to the melter and drops until the stem is inside the liquid wax. The dial reads from outside.

Cold wax comes off by warming the stem, never with a blade.

It is an accessory for one particular melter: check it fits yours.
