The point of a sliding or rotating entrance is that it moves. The staple has to hold it and let it move at the same time.
01 · THE CLEARANCE
Hold it without closing the arch onto the part
The arch of the staple works as a guide or as a stop, depending where you put it. What it cannot do is clamp: drive it home until it closes on the metal and the entrance stops sliding, so you end up prising it with a screwdriver every time you want to change position.
The mark to aim for is enough room to slide it with a finger, without any rattle.
02 · DRIVING THEM IN
Offer up, mark, and try one first
Put the entrance block in its working position first, mark the points and drive a single staple to check the travel before finishing the rest. Go in gradually and straight: crooked, it opens the grain and works loose in the first season.
Keep away from the edge of the board and from open grain, which is where the wood splits. The galvanising is what stands up outdoors without staining the box with rust.
03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
They are the anchor, not the entrance block: that goes separately. The pack carries no count declared by the supplier.
