The latch needs a firm point to hook onto to keep the hive closed. These galvanised staples are commonly used as anchors in Layens hives.

🔩 Simple anchor for closure

The arch receives the latch when it rotates or is tightened. The position must allow for a firm closure without forcing the hardware to work at an angle or lifting the lid.

🏗️ Position the latch before nailing

Temporarily assemble both pieces, mark the centre, and test with a single point. Nail alternately so the staple goes in straight and avoid areas near an edge where the wood could split.

⚠️ Check before each move

Check that the anchor has not lifted and that the latch has no play. This closure helps keep the box together, but it does not replace the strapping or immobilization required during transport.
