01 · AIR HIDES IN THE POINTS

And that is where the edge is lost

Every vertex is a dead end: the wax arrives, pushes the air, and the air has nowhere to go. The result is a rounded point instead of a sharp one. Pour slowly, tapping the base of the mould steadily so the bubbles rise.

Beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C, so pour at 70 to 75: fluid enough to reach the bottom of each point before it starts to set. With plaster or resin, running a stick inside the vertices finishes the job of freeing trapped air.

02 · POINTS BREAK WHEN WARM

And an off-centre wick shows more than anywhere

With the wax still warm the points are soft and stay behind in the mould. Wait for it to cool completely and open the mould wide, freeing the vertices without levering on them.

On a geometric figure, besides, a wick out of line is obvious: the candle burns to one side and eats one point before the others. It is worth taking the time to align it with the stick before pouring. The maker publishes neither the wax weight nor the wick size; tell us the diameter you measure in the mould and we will tell you which one it takes.
