"Melchior" Silicone Mold: Realism and Tradition for Your Nativity
No Nativity scene is complete without Melchior. This high-quality mold is designed for beekeepers and crafters who demand more than generic shapes. It stands out for its accurate reproduction of facial features and outfit details, allowing you to create a figurine full of character. The perfect companion to Balthazar and Caspar, it is ideal for casting in pure beeswax, plaster, or resin to create a high-value artisanal product.
Instructions & Compatibility:
• Suitable Materials: Beeswax, soy wax, palm wax, paraffin, ceramic plaster, creative concrete, epoxy resin, and soap base.
• Preparation: Apply silicone spray to protect facial details. Thread and secure the wick. Typically, you must secure the mold with strong rubber bands to prevent leakage.
• Pouring Temperature: Pour liquid wax between 50°C and 60°C. A moderate temperature prevents thermal shock that could distort the facial expression upon cooling.
• Safety: Always use caution when handling hot wax.
💡 Expert Tips for Melchior:
1. The Face is Key: Air bubbles love to trap themselves in the nose or eyes of figurines. Tilt the mold slightly while pouring slowly. Immediately after, tap the base gently but firmly on the table to force micro-bubbles away from the face.
2. Mind the Neck: The neck is often a tension point during demolding. Never pull the candle out by its head. Open the mold sides as wide as possible (don't worry, the silicone is flexible) and push the figure up from the bottom.
3. The Final Touch: Melchior traditionally brings Gold. If using beeswax, you can brush a little gold mica powder or candle paint onto the chest he carries. This highlights the symbolism and significantly increases the perceived value of the candle.
