Details of Silicone mould – Angel

Two-part silicone mould for a beeswax angel candle, with the wings and the folds of the robe in fine relief.

At 50 °C beeswax is not poured: it is solid. The supplier's sheet says to pour between 50 and 60 °C. Beeswax melts between 62 and 65, so at 50 there is nothing to pour. It is poured at 70-75 °C, with enough margin to reach the bottom of the mould still liquid.

01 · AT 50 °C WAX IS SOLID

And at 60 it arrives already setting

The right range is 70-75 °C: below that the wax arrives thick and leaves cold lines; above 85 it darkens. On a figure with wings and folds, pouring cold is exactly what erases the detail you are buying this mould for.

02 · IT IS A TWO-PART MOULD

And without bands it leaks at the seam

It has to be closed and held with elastic bands before pouring: otherwise the hot wax finds the seam and goes out that way. Our range has bands made for silicone moulds at €1.61; it costs nothing to keep some at hand.

Pour slowly and tap the mould a few times straight after: the texture of the robe traps air easily, and those bubbles stay on the visible face.

03 · THE WINGS BREAK ON UNMOULDING

And it is the one mistake with no remedy

Wait until the wax is completely cold and hard before taking the bands off and opening it. Unmoulding in a hurry snaps the tips of the feathers, which are the finest part of the piece and the first thing anyone looks at.
