Silicone mould for a Christmas tree candle with a niche. The figure comes out 13.5 × 7.5 cm and around 130 g of wax.

A hundred and thirty grams is seven or eight candles to the kilo. It is a big candle, and that number rules the price.

01 · 130 GRAMS: 7-8 CANDLES PER KILO

The figure is 13.5 cm tall by 7.5 across and takes around 130 g of wax. A kilo gives seven or eight pieces: the material weighs on the price far more than on a small candle.

02 · THE NICHE SAVES 70 GRAMS

And explains why it uses less than the origami tree

The origami-faceted tree in our range, of the same dimensions, takes about 200 g according to LYSON. This one takes 70 grams less, and the difference is the hollow of the niche with its nativity scene.

03 · POUR AT 70-75 °C

Wax melts at 62-65, not before

The sheet gave no temperature and it is worth fixing: beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C and is poured between 70 and 75. Colder it will not fill the detail of the niche; above 85 it darkens.

At 13.5 cm it pays to pour slowly and in one go. Wax contracts as it cools: once the surface has set, top the hollow up with a second pour. The mould has a slit: before pouring, close it with rubber bands so the wax does not escape through the join.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Reckon a kilo of wax every seven or eight pieces. Neither wax nor wick is included.
