Details of Candle mould - Eiffel Tower (small)

Eiffel Tower mould: a tall, slender candle of 11.5 cm from about 50 grams of wax, roughly 20 to the kilo.

Tall and narrow, which is a case of its own. Almost twelve centimetres of height with very little section: that is why the wick is a small 3 × 6, and why the pour has a technique to it. An oversized wick on a candle like this throws it off balance.

01 · TALL AND THIN: 50 G, 3 × 6 WICK

The wick is chosen by the section, not by the height

At about 50 grams a piece you get on the order of 20 candles to the kilo: little wax for a lot of effect, which is what makes this figure interesting on the counter.

The 3 × 6 is a fine wick because the tower's section is small. A bigger one gives no more light: it makes a flame that eats the wall on one side and ends up leaning the candle. It is not included.

02 · POUR SLOWLY INTO THE LATTICE

The tower's detail is all air and edge

The wax is poured between 70 and 75 °C — it melts at 62-65 and darkens above 85 — in a thin stream and without hurry. The tower's lattice is the part of the mould where a bubble most easily gets trapped, and a bubble there is a stretch of structure that never appears.

After that, the mould is not moved until the candle is completely cold. On a slender piece, unmoulding while warm is the quickest way to bend it.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

A lot of figure for very little wax.
