Details of Heart-shaped tealight candle mould (8 cavities)

Flexible eight-cavity mould for heart-shaped tealights, with a central hole for a metal-based wick.

It is how you turn leftover wax into small pieces. Fix the wick, pour, let it cool; the flex in the mould is what lets you release the piece without cracking it.

01 · THE WICK

Metal-based, and centred

Each cavity has its central hole for a wick with a metal sustainer: that base keeps the wick upright while the wax sets and makes the tealight burn to the bottom. With beeswax the wick also goes thicker than with paraffin — it melts higher, and a short wick drowns.

02 · WAX SHRINKS

Which is why it needs a second pour

As it cools, wax contracts and leaves a dip round the wick: fill it with a second pour once the surface has set and the centre is still warm. And filter the wax before pouring, because a speck pushes the wick off centre and on a piece this small it shows.

03 · WHAT YOU CAN USE IT WITH

Wax, paraffin and decorative too

Flexible heat-resistant plastic: it takes beeswax, vegetable waxes and paraffin, and resin or plaster for decorative pieces.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

A tealight runs to about 15 g of wax: count on a little over 100 g a batch, and weigh the first for your own figure.
