Candle Mould - Easter Egg - Large

01 · POUR AT 70-75 °C, NOT 65

It is the one correction that matters here

Beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C and is poured at around 70-75: with that margin it reaches the bottom of the mould still liquid and copies the whole ribbing. Below that it stops halfway; above 85 the wax darkens, and on a piece this size that shows.

The rest of the supplier's procedure is right: clean mould, wick centred and vertical before pouring, full cooling without moving the mould, and unmoulding without hurry.

02 · THE 330 G DO ADD UP

And we checked, because in this range they do not always

The cylinder enclosing the figure — Ø 7.8 by 10 cm tall — is 478 cm³, which at the density of wax gives 459 g as an absolute ceiling. An ovoid fills about two thirds of its cylinder, so it comes to some 300 g. The 330 g declared are within reason.

Translated into what matters: three figures per kilo of wax. With our 1 kg beeswax block that is about €4.92 of wax per candle; with your own cappings wax, the cost is whatever you put on it.

03 · THE SIDE CUT IS THE MOULD

And that is what you are paying extra for

A 7.8 cm ribbed egg does not come out of a closed mould without dragging the grooves. The side cut lets you open it and release the whole piece with the relief intact.

In exchange, every pour means closing the cut with rubber bands and leaving them on while it fills and cools. This is not a mould for casting in a chain: it is a mould for one good piece.

04 · A 3x18 WICK, THICK FOR A REASON

Seven point eight centimetres is a lot

The supplier recommends a 3x18 flat-braid wick, and that recommendation does come with the mould. A short or thin wick opens a narrow well, drowns in its own wax and leaves the egg unburnt on the outside.

The wick is separate. Our range has flat-braid wick on the roll and centring devices to keep it straight while it cools.
