Details of Candle Mould - Cylinder with engraved cells 5cm

Silicone mould for a cylindrical candle of 5 × 3.5 cm with a honeycomb relief, using about 40 g of wax.

Here the pattern is the product, and the comb comes out crisp or rounded depending on how the wax goes in and when you take it out.

01 · THE POUR

Get it into the corners of the hexagon

Silicone copies detail, but only if the wax reaches the bottom of the relief while still liquid. Pour it in a thin, unbroken stream, and once it is full tap the mould gently on the bench a few times: the bubbles rise and leave. A bubble trapped against the wall leaves one smooth cell, and on a honeycomb candle you spot it at once.

02 · DEMOULDING

Rushing is what rounds the edges

A plain candle forgives coming out warm; this one does not. While the wax is still soft, the edges of the comb flatten as they pass the neck of the mould and the relief goes blurred. Wait until it is cold right through — a few minutes in the fridge help, and shrink the candle a touch as well — and get it out by folding the silicone back, never by pulling on the wick.

03 · THE SMALL FORMAT

Forty grams: the candle for clean offcuts

At 40 g apiece, this mould is the one that uses up strained cappings wax and what is left over from earlier pours, which is the cleanest wax the honey room produces. Being small it sets fast, so with two or three moulds you can run batches without waiting and get matching pieces for the counter or for gifts.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The size 3 wick the supplier suggests is a starting point: the numbering differs between makers and has to be validated by burning one with your own wax.

✓ FITSClean beeswax, short runs and presentation pieces with the comb on show.
✕ DOESN'T FITMelting inside the mould, in the oven or with a heat gun: the silicone takes wax that is already molten.
⚠ NOT INCLUDEDWax, wick or wick holder.
