01 · WHICH JARS IT FITS

Every TO 77 jar in our catalogue

It fits the 0.5 kg plain V370 jar, the 1 kg honeycomb jar, the plain V720, the V580 ml jar, the quarter-gallon (900 ml) jar and the 12REF 347 ml and 16REF 445 ml jars. If your jar comes from elsewhere, check the mouth: TO 77 with a GPI 2040 finish. A similar diameter is not enough — the thread pitch and the lugs have to match.

02 · HOW IT SEALS

The compound does the sealing, not your grip

On a twist-off, the seal is made by the inner compound against the jar rim: you turn until it seats and you stop. Forcing it does not close it better, it deforms the skirt. Which is why two things make a lid weep: a knocked jar rim — set that one aside — and a reused lid whose compound has already done its work. For honey you are going to sell, or for pasteurising, the lid goes on new; used ones are for the jar at home. The whole travel is a quarter turn: if it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift the lid off and set it down flat again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The pack of 16 is for small runs or for trying the colour. If you bottle in earnest, the same lid comes in a pack of 25 and a box of 950, which is where the price per lid drops. In TO 77 you also have silver, white, bronze, black, honeycomb and bee-print: same mouth, different finish.
