01 · WHAT IS IN THE CASE

Five pieces, each with its own reference

The Schley 1.02 unit — frame, holding clamp and built-in precision syringe —, the 4.04 CO₂ adapter, the 4.10 pressure regulator, the 3.20 LED lamp and the trinocular microscope.

What does not come is the CO₂ bottle: you buy and refill it at a local gas supplier, which is only sensible for a pressure vessel.

02 · BOTTLE, NOT CARTRIDGE

Steady flow and cheap gas

With small cartridges the gas runs out halfway through a session and the cost per queen climbs. The regulator and adapter pair is what lets you connect a large bottle and meter the flow precisely during anaesthesia.

That is why this is the set-up of a fixed station: you assemble it once, it stays assembled, and the consumable becomes a cheap refill.

03 · THE MICROSCOPE

10x and 30x, with a camera port

HWF 10x/20 mm eyepieces giving 10x and 30x. The 10x is for handling and positioning; the 30x is for the detail at the moment of insemination.

Being trinocular, the third port takes a digital camera. That serves for recording, for reviewing afterwards what was done and, above all, for teaching the technique without taking turns at the eyepiece.

04 · THE LIGHT AND THE WEAR

Telling semen from mucus

The 3.20 LED lamp gives a spectrum in which semen is clearly distinguished from mucus. It is not decorative: it is where the technique is decided.

And the syringe is precision kit with replaceable parts: cylinder, seal and capillary tip have their own references and are sold separately. It is worth having the spare in the case before the rearing season.
