Varrox and Varrox Eddy: power supply and hive access

The classic Varrox needs an external electrical supply, whereas Varrox Eddy has a rechargeable battery. Check access to the hive, clearance at the entrance and your charging arrangements before choosing. The medicine is selected and purchased separately.

Varroxal contains oxalic acid and can be applied by evaporation, trickling or spraying, with different preparations. For evaporation, the Spanish product information specifies 2 g per broodless colony in autumn or winter, at an outside temperature of 2–10 °C. The trickling mixture must not be put into a vaporiser; each route has its own instructions.

Thymovar: conditions for thymol evaporation

Thymovar contains thymol in cellulose strips. Its Spanish product information distinguishes three temperature thresholds: efficacy falls if the average during treatment drops below 15 °C, the optimum daily maximum is 20–25 °C, and it must not be used if the outside daily maximum exceeds 30 °C. The number and position of strips depend on the hive type specified in the leaflet.

Identify the dispenser before ordering consumables

Liebig papers and FAM sponges belong to different dispensers. They are device consumables, not medicines. Their sale does not authorise making treatments from bulk acid: a veterinary use must correspond to an authorised medicine and route in the country of application. Before using a dispenser for treatment, check that the medicine’s authorised product information permits that system in the country of use. Instructions from another country do not establish authorisation locally.
