01 · THE FRAME

217 × 160 half frame: two make a Blatt half super

The Mini Plus half frames measure about 217 × 160 mm; joined in pairs they form a 160 Dadant Blatt half-super frame, the one in production hives. So the nuc’s brood, pollen and stores go up into the hive without breaking the nest or taking the bees off their comb. It is the Mini Plus system shared by wooden and polystyrene nucs: the house Nicot plastic half frames (2234) and the 0.8 L wooden feeder (2455) fit here.

02 · TWO IN ONE

Divider, two entrances and double feeder

With the divider the body splits into two colonies of three half frames, each with its entrance in the floor and its side of the feeder: two queens mating in one box, or a reserve queen beside the working one. Opposite entrances avoid drifting. A nuc this small chills and gets robbed with little: syrup little and often, and a reduced entrance while the population is low.

03 · THE MATERIAL

High-density EPS, painted and stackable

High-density polystyrene insulates far better than thin wood: the small colony copes with cold spring nights and summer heat spikes and uses fewer stores. Lyson supplies it factory-painted blue, ready for the weather; the four-slope roof sheds rain and stacks when handling dozens of nucs. Propolis is scraped cold and flat; no solvents or torch. Feeder about 30 × 30 × 7 cm.

04 · HOW IT ARRIVES

Complete: body, frames, floor, feeder and roof

The complete nuc is supplied: splittable body with divider, modular half frames, double-entrance floor, double feeder and roof. Foundation for the half frames, bees and queen come separately. For an even smaller and cheaper mini nuc, with four plastic frames, there is the high-density PRO (2470).

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The complete Mini Plus nuc is supplied; foundation, bees and queen come separately, and the Nicot half frames (2234) and the wooden feeder (2455) are compatible spares.
