Pollen does not dry fast: it dries warm. Above about 40 °C you spoil the very thing you went out to collect.

Stainless steel tray with a fine mesh for drying pollen in a heated cabinet, 51.5 × 37.5 cm. The rigid frame does not distort under load.

01 · WHY MESH AND NOT SHEET

The air has to pass underneath

In a solid tray the pollen dries on top and holds moisture below. The fine mesh lets the air through the whole layer, so drying is even and there is no damp base to ferment later in the jar.

And a rule worth more than the tray: a thin layer. A finger of pollen spread out dries sooner and better than three centimetres heaped up.

02 · THE TEMPERATURE

Warm, never hot

Pollen is delicate: taken past temperature it loses colour, aroma and much of its value. Work below about 40 °C — a slow, warm dry gives better product than a fast, hot one. And it has to end up properly dry: with residual moisture the jar spoils however well it is stored.

03 · IN THE CABINET

And stacking several levels

The 51.5 × 37.5 cm footprint fits compatible heated cabinets. To work on several levels, the support hooks are sold separately and hold each tray on the side runners. It is stainless: hot water and dry it straight away.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is the tray, not the cabinet:
