FROM THE CAR LIGHTER, 60 W AND 1.5 M OF CABLE

20 mm

OF INSULATING PANEL AND A FAN IN THE LID

Portable incubator for 72 queen cells for the trip between the rearing apiary and the incubator or the nucs: a 20 mm insulated-panel box with a digital thermostat adjustable from 30 to 35 °C at ±0.3 °C, external readout, a fan in the lid, two foam pads with 36 holes of Ø 16 × 60 mm, a latch and a handle. It runs off the car lighter at 12 V with 1.5 m of cable and draws 60 W; 38 × 42 × 33 cm and 5.4 kg.

It heats; it does not cool. It holds nest temperature in the car, but nobody brings a boot in the August sun down: travel early or with the air conditioning on.

01 · WHAT IT DOES

Hold nest temperature for the journey

A capped queen cell finishes its development at brood-nest temperature, about 34-35 °C, and the last hours before emergence are the ones that least forgive a chill. The digital thermostat is set between 30 and 35 °C and holds the value at ±0.3 °C; the display is on the outside, so you check without opening the lid, and the fan in the lid spreads the heat so the bottom cells do not run colder than the top ones. The 20 mm panel, polystyrene with a PVC skin, buffers the early-morning cold and the heat of the cabin. It does not make up for old larvae or weak brood: it carries what is already well made.

02 · HOW THE CELLS TRAVEL

Each in its hole, without rolling

Inside go two stacked foam pads, each with 36 holes of Ø 16 × 60 mm: 72 queen cells in all, each set upright and isolated from engine vibration and track bumps. They go without a protector or with the protector on if it fits the hole; on a long trip with emergences expected, protector. The metal latch keeps the lid from opening under braking and the handle lets you carry it one-handed.

03 · THE POWER

12 V in the car, 220 V with a separate supply

The 1.5 m cable has a 12 V lighter plug and works in any car, van or 4×4; the 60 W come from the vehicle’s battery, unnoticed with the engine running and noticed with the engine off for hours. In the store or the rearing room it can be plugged into 220-240 V with a 12 V power supply of 60 W or more, not included. It is not a room incubator: for continuous incubation there are the fixed ones.

04 · WHAT IT GOES WITH

The 45-cell portable and the fixed incubators

For fewer cells, the smaller LYSON 45-cell portable (2626); for room incubation, the C54 for 150 cells (1979), the HobbyPro for 400 (1977) and the Swienty for 196 (953). Nicot incubator cages (863) protect the queen on emergence. From the queen module: nest temperature and 50-60 % humidity are references, not guarantees of emergence.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The incubator is supplied with its two pads and the lighter cable; the 220 V supply and the cell protectors come separately.

✓ FITSBreeders moving queen cells between the rearing apiary, the incubator and the nucs who do not want to trust the trip to a bucket with a cloth.
✕ DOESN’T FITAnyone needing to cool in summer (it only heats) or to incubate continuously in a room: that is what the fixed ones are for.
⚠ NOT INCLUDED220 V supply or cell protectors.
