The Perpiñán Sublimator is an electric single-dose oxalic acid vaporizer built for beekeepers running medium to large operations, where treatment pace matters as much as precision. Unlike battery-powered devices, it keeps the cazoleta at working temperature between doses, with no reheat downtime. Hand-built in Spain, with a 1100 W heating element at 230 V and a built-in surge protector.
Connected directly to mains power, the heating element keeps the cazoleta at working temperature as you move through the apiary. Battery-powered units cool down with every shot and force you to wait for the next reheat cycle before the next hive — here the bottleneck is only the time it takes you to draw the next dose and step to the next entrance. In end-of-season treatments across 50 hives or more, the difference shows over a full day: less idle time between doses, more apiaries covered.
The manufacturer positions this format around standing work: device held at waist height while vapour starts coming out and you lower the tube down to the hive entrance. In practice it means vaporisation begins before the tube is inside the colony, and product is lost to the open air.
The common shortcut is to raise the dose to compensate for what evaporates outside. But oxalic acid has a narrow therapeutic window: dosing by feel is not rigorous work and can harm the colony.
Our recommendation: accept bending down, introduce the tube into the entrance, and trigger the dose only when the tube is in place. Slightly slower, but the full dose reaches the colony as prescribed by the vet.
Oxalic acid has a narrow sublimation window: too low and it does not vaporise properly; too high and it starts to break down and loses efficacy. The adjustable thermostat lets you fine-tune the exact point according to the veterinary prescription for the medication you are using. Field check: when you release the dose with the syringe, the vapour should leave a clean white mark on a board placed about 10 cm from the nozzle. No mark — raise the temperature. Burning or darkening — lower it. One-minute calibration before starting the round.
Small-batch production in the maker's own workshop: each unit passes through the same hands. The built-in surge protector is a recent addition, born from field reports with unstable rural power grids and portable generators. Wear parts — nozzle, wiring, thermostat — are replaceable. This is not a single-use device.
Power supply: 230 V mains connection or, for off-grid apiaries, a generator rated 2000 W minimum. This is not a battery-powered device — if your hives sit in isolated spots without mains and you do not want to carry a generator, this format is not for you.
Mandatory PPE: certified full-face respirator with ABEK filters (or local equivalent) suitable for acid vapours. Oxalic acid vapour is corrosive to airways and conjunctiva.
Legal use: only apply oxalic-acid medications registered by your national veterinary authority and prescribed by a vet (Api-Bioxal, Varroxal and equivalents depending on country). Use of pure oxalic acid by sublimation is not authorised in most EU jurisdictions.
